Former pro wrestler Jay Briscoe killed in Delaware highway crash while taking daughters to cheerleading practice

Pro wrestler Jay Briscoe — best known as one half of the “Briscoe Brothers” tag team — was killed in a head-on highway crash in Delaware, authorities and his family said. The daughters were taken to cheerleading practice.

The artist, whose real name is Jamin Pugh, was driving east on Laurel Road in a Chevrolet Silverado 2500 at 5:09 p.m. Tuesday when a westbound Chevrolet Silverado 1500 “crossed the center lane” and turned east. came towards “in the straight way”. traffic, the state police said.

Police said Ternahan was wearing a seat belt and Pugh was not.

Police said Pugh was traveling with two daughters, ages 9 and 12, who were both wearing seat belts. The girls were taken to a nearby hospital, where both remain in critical condition.

Pugh’s mother, Jana Pugh, told NBC Philadelphia that he was taking the girls to cheerleading practice.

She said she believed her son was alive when she and her husband arrived at the crash site.

Police said the vehicles involved in the fatal crash Tuesday evening were only pickup trucks and it was not immediately clear whether either of the drivers was unwell.

Pugh and brother Mark Pugh were the “Brisco Brothers” who performed for the Florida-based Ring of Honor wrestling circuit.

“It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the tragic passing of Jamin Pugh, known to wrestling fans around the world as Jay Briscoe,” Ring of Honor said in a statement on Wednesday. “Our thoughts are with his family, his friends and his fans.”

The brothers’ in-ring personas, as tough guy chicken farmers, were among Ring of Honor’s most popular acts of the early 2000s.

Outside the ring, friends knew Jamin Pugh as a devoted father.

In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Ring of Honor posted a video of Pugh with a ribbon in her hair and practicing a cheerleading routine with her daughter.

The Laurel School District closed Wednesday due to the “unimaginable tragedy,” the district said in a statement.
