Porsche has made an unlikely collaboration with seat maker Recaro to create a gaming chair based on the sports cars of yesteryear.
with a rather unsexy surname, Recaro x Porsche Gaming Chair Limited Edition (opens in new tab)The chair leans more into comfort than race-car-inspired fashion—and that’s probably a good thing.
Gaming chairs lack ergonomics as manufacturers prefer sleek looks over comfort. And gaming or working for long hours, you will surely start to feel some pain in your lower back. Addressing this directly, the Porsche gaming chair comes with an “anti-submerging seat ramp,” which means the cushion sits at an upward angle, and “firm lumbar support.” It’s all perched atop a lightweight aluminum base so gamers can sit back comfortably in the chair and not worry about slipping.
Porsche says the chair is made of “high-quality upholstery foam and breathable fabric” for a comfortable seat all year round; Definitely a welcome convenience for those hot, summer days. And the last notable feature is the 5D armrest which can be adjusted in multiple ways for the perfect fit. With everything put together, you can play while sitting in an upright posture without having to deal with twisting in your back. After hours of sitting it is always good practice to get up and stretch your legs a bit (speaking from experience here).
availability
True to its name the Porsche Gaming Chair Limited Edition will in fact be limited to 911 units. This seemingly random number is most likely a reference to the latest car model, the Porsche 911 GT3 R. Pre-orders are available now for $2,499. Its shipping date has been set for March 15.
If the Porsche gaming chair looks familiar to you, it’s because it’s almost identical Recaro Exo Platinum Sky (opens in new tab), According to the product page, both chairs are made from the same breathable fabric, have the same 5D armrests, the same aluminum base, and a load capacity of up to 150 kg (330 lb). The only real difference seems to be the exterior design: the Porsche gaming chairs match the look of the 911 GT3 R and even have the car’s logo embroidered on the headrests.
It appears that Porsche’s chair Exo is the more expensive American version of the Platinum Sky. That chair will run you 1,249 Euros (about $1350 USD).
We reached out to Porsche for clarification on whether this is exclusive to the United States or if it will be shipped globally. This story will be updated if we hear back.
