Pele’s daughter shares moving photo with her father in hospital

The daughter of Brazilian football legend Pele took to Instagram late on Friday to post a moving tribute and photo of her father at the Albert Einstein Jewish Hospital in Sao Paulo.

“We are here to persevere in struggle and faith. One more night together,” wrote Kelly Nascimento.

Her words were accompanied by a picture of her hugging her father as he lay on a hospital bed. Pele’s granddaughter Sofia can also be seen in the photo.

Nascimento posted earlier this week that his father would be celebrating Christmas in the hospital.

Pele, 82, was admitted on November 29 for a respiratory infection and “re-evaluation of chemotherapy treatment on colon cancer diagnosed in September 2021,” according to a statement from the hospital.

An update from the hospital earlier this week said Pele’s health had worsened and he would need more care as his cancer progressed.

Nascimento has previously thanked well-wishers for their tributes and messages of support.

“Our Christmas at home has been suspended,” Nascimento wrote in a post on Wednesday. “We decided with the doctors that, for various reasons, it would be better for us to stay (in the hospital), with all the care this new family… Einstein gives us!!” Nascimento added.

Following Pelé’s hospitalization in November, Nascimento reported that the former footballer had COVID-19 despite having been vaccinated “with all doses”, and that because the chemotherapy had made him more fragile, he had lung cancer. I got infected.

Pele was born in Edson Arantes do Nascimento and is widely regarded as one of the greatest football players in history, Pele played in four World Cups, winning three – in 1958, 1962, 1970 – as well as scoring 12 goals in 14 games .
