What is open and closed on New Year’s Day 2023

New York

Many of us will end 2022 with celebrations that last until the early hours of New Year’s Day.

But when January 1, 2023 rolls around, we will surely return to familiar routines and habits – caffeine? — and even add some new resolutions, like going for a morning walk or eating healthier.

If so, on January 1, 2023, many grocery chains, drug stores and restaurant chains are open for business across the country.

But check hours of operation at your local store. Many will have modified hours and are either opening later or closing earlier on New Year’s Day.

Also, since January 1, 2023 falls on a Sunday, Monday, January 2, will be considered a paid holiday for most federal employees. That is, post offices, government offices and banks will remain closed on Monday.
